Engineered floors (formerly known as semi-solid floors) consist of layers of plywood and hardwood, each layer positioned in a different direction. Unlike a laminate with a photographic top layer, engineered floors feature a top layer which is constructed of genuine real wood (hardwood), with the layers of plywood underneath it. The hardwood top layer is massively impressive in look and feel, however due to their authenticity, they are less scratch-resistant than laminated wood and so may not be suitable for homes with pets.
